WESTBOROUGH, MA. _ FLIC (Female Leadership Interest Council) announced today that the most recognized face of the American Women’s Movement, Gloria Steinem, will be the keynote speaker at FLIC’s Inaugural Trailblazing Luncheon to be held at noon on November 30, 2007, at Mechanic’s Hall in Worcester.
“Gloria Steinem remains one of America’s most influential and respected ‘trailblazers,’” said FLIC Founder, Deborah Penta. “We are delighted to welcome someone who has dedicated her life to blazing such a significant trail for women in America. Steinem has helped women make great progress, and we would not be in a position to have an organization like FLIC, which has a mission of helping women achieve stronger leadership roles, and to help women from all walks of life with invaluable mentoring experiences, if women before us like Steinem did not blaze the trail to make this possible.”
FLIC’s Inaugural Luncheon brings Steinem to Central Massachusetts for the first time.
“Her appearance will give women of the region an opportunity to meet and listen to the experiences of a woman who is known throughout the world for her dedication to women’s rights and equality,“ Penta said. “Members of FLIC and women in our communities will be energized by one of the most dynamic, provocative and effective female pioneers of our time.”
Steinem founded Ms. Magazine, the first national magazine run by women. She also was the co-founder of New York Magazine, as well as the co-founder of the National Women’s Caucus. She was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993. In 1998, she was inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors with Hugh Hefner of Playboy and Bryon Dobell, former editor of American Heritage, Esquire, New York and Life Magazines.
FLIC will be hosting a members “Meet and Greet” reception with Steinem from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. and the luncheon will take place from noon -1:30 p.m. The FLIC Inaugural Luncheon is open to members and the community.
